GYN Emergent Care Center serves the residents of Long Beach and other nearby neighborhoods in Southern California. The facility is the only emergency care treatment center for women in the area and specializes in the treatment of both fibroids and ovarian cysts.
Fibroids are basically small tumors that are made up of fibrous tissue. These small tumors are extremely compact and made up of fibrous, connective tissue and smooth muscle cells. Some fibroids do not cause any symptoms. In some cases, however, the fibroids can grow larger than normal and begin to cause pain and discomfort, as well as a major change in the flow and duration of the woman's menstrual cycle. The majority of fibroid tumors are benign and do not turn malignant. There are medical and surgical treatments to treat fibroids.
When symptoms do occur, such as pain, bloating, and general discomfort in the area, it is normally due to the size and location of the fibroid or cyst. When cysts and fibroids grow larger than normal, they can begin to put pressure on the surrounding organs or the blood vessels that supply the area. This is generally what produces the pain and discomfort. If an ovarian cysts is abnormally large or does not look like a regular cyst, the doctor may perform a biopsy to make sure it is nothing to be worried about.
